Chapter 15 - On The Run

Within the week, the Darstrong family had put out a bounty for Cyrus’ head and sent their own assassins after him.

Cyrus had already expected this after finding out who Dalmier was. However, he didn’t know how cruel the Darstrong family would be.

The Darstrong family had also sent mages to the Van Dume family to kill everyone from Cyrus’ family. They also commanded their mages to spread a plague that will kill everyone in the Barony of Van Dume, leaving it a barren wasteland.

However, Cyrus didn’t know all of this, otherwise he would have stayed and fought them directly. Instead, not knowing any better, he decided to flee since it was easier to not fight and risk his life for nothing.

He was after all, still officially a level 3 acolyte without his other powers.

He had tracked south towards warmer weather and was hiding in a cave deep in the forest roughly 200 km from the Abominable Abyss Academy.

He was assembling Theresa’s body the best he could. The runes on the floor started healing her body.

He realized that there was something in her vagina and as he pulled it out, he discovered it was Dalmier’s cock. He looked at it and pulled out the flesh of Dalmier's penis and threw it aside.

Using the penis skin and testicle sack, he made a purse and kept some coins in them. He didn’t want to use his spatial ring in public too much as spatial rings were rare and attracted too much attention.

Several hours later, Theresa’s body was completely healed and whole, however her spirit was gone.

At his mental command, she sat up and opened her eyes. But she was nothing more than a puppet.

He cleaned her up, as her mouth and pussy was still filled with Dalmier’s dried up cum.

Finally, he sat down and got her to sit on him and fuck him. As he hugged her naked body tightly, he finally cried and released all the tension from the last few days.

He then took out a emerald and started drawing runes all around the air and then attached the runes to the jewel. This was a spirit jewel that would be used to store spirits in the future.

He had been too late and didn’t manage to rescue Theresa’s spirit in time when Dalmier killed her. However, with a spirit jewel, he would be able to keep spirits in the future.

He got dressed. The only clothes he had was the acolyte robe that he was wearing that day. He didn’t even have any clothes for Theresa.

He looked at the note Miranda gave him. It was an introduction letter to Martial Realm Academy, the elite magical academy in the neighboring nation of Alamandar.

In Martial Realm, they didn’t form separate academies of magic, nor did they separate magic and knight school, rather they had a gigantic academy for all magical and knight arts.

This actually interested Cyrus as he found the study of only the dark arts in Abominable Abyss was too restrictive. The magics he encountered and faced not only from the acolytes but also from the teachers were too limited and predictable, even though they prided themselves as the school of unrestrained thought.

The inspiration he received from the Wall of Insight indicated that he needed to merge all magics, and thus perhaps this was the reason he was sent by Merlin to the Abominable Abyss.

Furthermore, with acolytes and squires mixing together, this would produce better rounded students that were comfortable with both physical fighting as well as magic.

The journey was over 1,000,000 km away and would take the better part of the year. However, if he could use a flying beast or even a teleportation portal from one of the major cities, it would be faster.

On the way, he intended to implement a few ideas inspired by the Wall of Insight regarding the Devouring magics. He wanted to find more and more ways to devour, using agents, objects and runes, all in ways to benefit his cultivation and overall strength.

Not knowing that the assassins had already overtaken him when he was hidden underground, he carefully reemerged from underground and walked to the nearby town of Dunfolk.

He bought himself a set of clothes and a cloak to hide himself. Unfortunately, the small town didn't have much in terms of clothes.

Not being in any hurry, he decided to have a nice meal in the nearby inn and stay the night.

During dinner, he overheard a conversation from the nearby table.

“Are you sure? Is that why there are so many mages in the town and nearby areas?” one man asked

“Yes. They are hunting for an acolyte from the Abominable Abyss school” the man answered.

“All of this resources used for only an acolyte? I wonder what he did?” he asked again

“I heard that the heir to the Darstrong Mage family was killed by this acolyte. There is a huge reward for the head of the acolyte by the very same Darstrong mage family, so their official mages as well as rogue mages are out hunting for him” he answered.

The first man nodded. “You mentioned the Abominable Abyss. What is that?” the first man asked again.

“Not many know, but there is a dark magic school somewhere in the haunted forest to the north.” he said.

“Interesting” thought Cyrus as he finished his meal and calmly walked up to his room.

He had already noticed that several of the people eating in the inn were mages. Now he realized that they were here to kill him.

He didn’t fear any mage. Although he was still only a level 3 acolyte, he was more than a match of the typical level 1 mages in the Abominable Abyss due to his skill and knowledge and his rune magics.

So far, his spell casting and other magics that he retained from his life as Loki made him superior in many ways, but he was limited by his own manna reserves.

Thus, engaging an unknown number of mages at the same time wasn’t advantageous to him, even though he was confident he would win.
