Chapter 10 - Cyrus' First Mission

“Acolyte Doom? I like it. That’s what I will call you from now on master” said Miranda as she sucked on Cyrus’s cock.

In public, they acted like the proper student and teacher, but in private, Miranda and her slaves waited on Cyrus hand and foot.

While asking about the mission and what to expect, the conversation with Miranda veered on to Theresa and Dalmier.

“I have to tell you something about the two of them” said Miranda while looking seriously at Cyrus.

She explained the secret arrangement between Professor Durnham and Dalmier for turning Theresa into a human cauldron.

Cyrus nodded. He was not unfamiliar with using human skin. After all, since being Miranda’s acolyte, he has been saving all the empty skins that Miranda discarded.

Their shared bedsheets were made from the skin of the male slaves that Miranda devoured. Their pillows were stuffed female skins that Cyrus devoured.

In fact, both Miranda and Cyrus daily wore underwear made from the appropriate parts of human skin, and both of them had full leather outfits made from human skin.

However, he quite liked Theresa and hated to see her life misused like this. If she was going to be anyone’s human cauldron, she would be his, not anyone else he decided.

The next day, he arrived at the entrance to the academy and met Theresa there. She wasn’t alone as Dalmier was there as were quite a number of people, most of which Cyrus have never met before.

They produced their mission token to the guardians and left the place and followed the map around 20 km away.

Cyrus had been interested in Ironwood vines for some time now. They were strong as iron and were partially sentient. They grew as big as a small animal like a rabbit and are known as pests.

Although they are strong as iron, they only entangle their prey and wait for them to die and eventually turn to fertilizer. As such, they are tricky but not particularly dangerous.

However, they do strangle out crops and other plants, making land with ironwood vines useless for food production.

Dark destructive magics are usually used to destroy these weeds and so they are the usual training fodder for acolytes.

As most of the acolytes were low level acolytes, they were only able to use simple dark magic spells like a low level decay or wither which was a basic dark magic spell.

Wither would work on these smaller vines the size of a palm and would only cause pain for anything bigger than a rabbit.

The group split up into smaller splinter groups. Cyrus obviously went with Theresa.

Cyrus watched as Theresa conjured a withering spell, destroying a patch of ironwood vines. As she was a level 6 acolyte, her withering spell was of course a higher level and could actually damage larger animals if need be.

He watched as her body moved under her loose robes and made the lower part of his body move as well.

After watching her do all the work, Cyrus decided to join in. Usually, withering spells work by one of two ways. One was by removing its lifeforce and vitality, which was what Theresa was doing. By his devouring ability, Cyrus could do the same.

However, he chose a small patch of ironwood vines and instead cast another form of withering, making it age faster.

From Theresa and the many other acolytes nearby, Cyrus absorbed and redirected their manna while they were casting and used their manna for his spell.

The acolytes including Theresa were confused as their spells fizzled out while they were casting, which they haven't experienced since they were level 1 acolytes.

Meanwhile nearby, instead of withering, the vine Cyrus cast his spell on grew larger and larger and within seconds.

“What are you doing? I’ve never seen Ironwood vines grow so large” said Theresa as she wondered over to him.

“Do you have any idea how old ironwood vines grow to?” Cyrus asked.

“No, they are usually killed off early” she said in amazement.

By now the vines had grown so large the vines reached the sky. The vines were swaying like monsters, it looked truly terrifying.

Cyrus smiled and walked directly into the large mass of vines

“Cyrus!” screamed Theresa. By now many other acolytes had arrived to look at the terrifyingly large ironwood vine.

As the vines attacked them, they found that their spells had little effect due to the size of the vines. Even Dalmier who had just arrived, found that his spells were useless against the vines.

Suddenly, as if there was a black hole sucking in the vines, the vines all withdrew to one point and vanished in an instant as he activated his fifth rune.

Stunned, the acolytes all looked as Cyrus sheepishly walked out. He was half naked as his acolyte robe was torn to bits. He used the remainder part of his cloak and wore it like a sarong.

“Doom. What is the meaning of this?” asked a teacher who was also in the area.

“Just an experiment I was doing. No one was hurt right?” answered Cyrus.

“You… you’re level 3 now?” asked Theresa as she sensed his cultivation increase.

“Yes, I guess I am. It worked” smiled Cyrus. He had accelerated the growth of the vines then used his devour ability of his fourth rune to absorb it’s energy.

This gave him a gigantic boost and enabled him to get to the next level in an instant. Usually, a change in levels require 9-12 months each level change.

“You! Where the hell do you think you are going? What experiment were you doing?” yelled Dalmier at Cyrus.

“None of your business. I am Vice-Principal Miranda’s acolyte. This is my secret project and I don’t have to tell you anything” answered Cyrus as he walked away.

“You.. impudent!” yelled Dalmier as he shot a bolt of lightning at Cyrus.

With a wave of his hand, Cyrus easily deflected the lightning away towards a field nearby full of ironwood vines, disintegrating them.

The rest were in shock. Lightning bolts, while a basic spell for mages, were considered a high level spell for acolytes due to the control and manna needed to cast it.

For Cyrus, a mere level 3 acolyte to deflect it meant that he was more powerful than the caster? Dalmier was a level 9 and nearly a full mage already!

Cyrus walked off with Theresa in hand and reported that they had completed their minimum requirement to fulfill their mission.

They were paid in magic crystals, which could be used for magical supplies and other things in the academy. Magic crystals were the main currency among magicians in the kingdom and could be used in trade or refined in the body for cultivation growth.

Cyrus smiled, this was the first amount of currency he has earned since arriving.
